Kalash

The Kalash (Nuristani: Kasivo, Greek: Καλάς) or Kalasha, are an ethnic group that lives in the Hindu Kush region of Pakistan. They are probably an ancient Dard people and they speak the Kalash language. Many Kalash claim that they are the direct descendants of either Greek settlers of the Alexander the Great's army, or even Alexander himself.[1] The claims are questionable, though, as there is evidence of their existence before Alexander's invasion of the Persian Empire. Any linguistic, religious, or cultural similarities between the Kalash and Greek people probably stem from the expansion of Proto-Indo-Europeans. Though generally overstated, they can exhibit blondism, and instances of blond hair or light eyes are not unusual and add to the romanticized notion of a European connection.
