Nuristan


Nurestan or Nuristan or Nooristan () formerly Kafiristan is a region in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Nuristan, "land of enlightened people" is located in north east of Afghanistan, and, by no means, it is not part of Pakistan. Before the coercive conversion of its inhabitants, Nuristan was known as Kafiristan a.k.a. "land of non-believers". In the years 1892-96 Nuristan was converted to Islam by Amir Abdul Rahman Khan. Currently Nuristan is the only homogeneous province in Afghanistan bordering with Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa, Badakhshan and Chiral of Pakistan. Paroun is the provincial capital of Nuristan which is covered by snow most of the year which makes it isolated and unaccessible.
